Tooth abscess is a pocket of puss which is formed around your tooth roots or in the gum and is caused due to infection. The abscess is caused in places for different reasons. A periapical abscess occurs at the tip of the root whereas a periodontal occurs in the gums.


A periapical tooth abscess usually occurs as a result of an untreated dental cavity, or an injury on prior dental work. You need tooth abscess treatment as soon as possible.


Dentists treat a tooth abscess by draining it out of your mouth and getting rid of the infection through meditation to heal the diseased site. Tooth abscess treatment is necessary. Root canal can save your tooth but in some cases, the tooth might needs to plucked out. Beware of leaving a tooth abscess untreated as that can lead to serious, even life-threatening complications.




Symptoms


Signs and symptoms of a tooth abscess include:

  • Severe, persistent, throbbing toothache that can radiate to the jawbone, neck, head or ear.

  • Sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures on your tooth

  • Pain to the pressure of chewing or biting

  • Fever

  • Face and cheek swelled

  • Tender, swollen lymph nodes under your jaw or in your neck

  • Sudden rush of foul-smelling and foul-tasting, salty fluid in your mouth and pain relief, if the abscess ruptures inside your mouth

  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing

When to see a doctor


You should visit your dentist promptly if you have any signs or symptoms of a tooth abscess and tooth pain.


If you have an aggravated symptoms like fever and swelling in your face and you can't reach your dentist, go to an emergency care. You should go to the emergency care if you have trouble breathing or swallowing. Breathlessness is a serious symptom that may indicate that the infection has spread far deeper into your jaw and surrounding tissue. It can even spread to other areas of your body. So fast check up is necessary.
